What began about four years ago has now taken on a life of its own:
Our nurseries in Monaragala, together with the neighbouring Aaradhya Nursery School, organised a clean-up and prevention day against dengue mosquitoes.
The children actively participated in cleaning up the local area and helped to eliminate potential breeding grounds for the mosquitoes. They were supported by parents, the police and staff from the health authority, who helped both with the clean-up and with raising awareness.
The children were also informed about the key measures for preventing dengue fever – with the aim of raising awareness of hygiene, environmental protection and preventive healthcare from an early age.
This initiative by the teachers shows that sometimes all it takes is a small nudge in the right direction to strengthen environmental awareness in the sustainable way.
