Women Initiative Mayomi

Mayomi, a young woman from Negombo, taught herself how to crochet and taught this technique to women from her grandfather’s village near Kurunegala. In the meantime, Mayomi supports and employs 12 women.

These women are grateful and proud to be able to contribute to their livelihoods through their extra work. Lankahelp is very committed to paying the women a fair price and has increased the standard wage.

Our visit to the Mayomi Women’s initiative 2023

The seamstresses in Nikaweratiya (approx. 25 km northwest of Kurunegala) assure us that they are very happy to be able to sew the cloth bandages for this project and thus contribute to the family income. They also hope that the project can be continued for a long time.

The size and color of the sanitary pads need to be adjusted. The new sanitary pads are no longer pure white, in line with the students’ wishes. In addition, the number of pads in a set now consists of 5 day pads (small) and 4 night pads (large).
