These women are grateful and proud to be able to contribute to their livelihoods through their extra work. Lankahelp is very committed to paying the women a fair price and has increased the standard wage.
Women Initiative Mayomi

Mayomi, a young woman from Negombo, taught herself how to crochet and taught this technique to women from her grandfather’s village near Kurunegala. In the meantime, Mayomi supports and employs 12 women.
Our visit to the Mayomi Women’s initiative 2025
Upon our arrival, we were warmly welcomed by Mayomi’s parents and her brother (Mayomi is still studying in Poland until the end of May) – a wonderful start to a particularly impressive visit.
On site, we were able to see how professionally and efficiently the women involved organize the production of the cloth pads. They produce the reusable cloth pads with great care, pride, and dedication.
Thanks to Lankahelp, all these women have work and income. We were repeatedly asked cautiously how long the project would continue – the concern about losing this important source of income is palpable. This made it all the more important for us to emphasize that we would give at least six months’ notice if anything were to change.
As a gesture of appreciation, Heinz gave the women a small gift sponsored by a Liechtenstein company.
