WC facilities at Tamil Central College Bandarawela and at Bathgoda School in Haldumulla

The inauguration of the newly built toilet building at Tamil Central College in Bandarawela was postponed to the date of our visit. This building was constructed exclusively for girls as part of the “Taboo Menstruation” project in order to provide them with the necessary privacy, hygiene and shelter. The three individual cubicles are almost twice as large as usual. There is also an antechamber where the girls have the opportunity to wash and change.

The construction plan for this toilet facility was designed by a woman from Liechtenstein. It turned out perfectly!

This school is attended by 2500 children and had 19 toilets. With our new toilet house, which consists of 3 toilets, the children now have a total of 22 toilets at their disposal! The conditions and facilities in Sri Lanka cannot be compared with Liechtenstein – but here is an example for comparison: the school in Ruggell is attended by 225 children and has 39 toilets and 12 urinals.

Toilet facility in Haldummulla

The toilet building for girls, which was completed just in time, is opened in our presence. We are very pleased – this toilet facility is also very well done. In Sri Lanka, sanitary facilities like the ones we have built are exceptional. It is extremely important to us that the girls have the opportunity to wash and change without being disturbed.
